NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile telephone operator, reported recently that they will be teaming up with Fuji Television Network Inc., Nippon Broadcasting System Inc. and other television companies to develop television broadcasting for cellphones.Since April Japanese cellphone users have been able to watch television programs on their mobile telephones but only the same digital terrestrial broadcasting services received by standard television sets.The parties will develop mobile content related with Kadokawa movies and animation, including original video content developed initially for the mobile environment, prior to release via other media. The parties will also consider possibilities for DoCoMo to join the film producing project which Kadokawa manages.Japan's Communications Ministry is considering allowing broadcasts specifically for cellphones from 2008, opening up new possibilities for cellphone operators with interactive programming and advertising.
