Apple and Cisco Call Truce Over "iPhone" Name



Suprisingly, today Cisco and Apple announced that they have resolved their dispute involving the "iPhone" trademark. A few weeks before Apple announced the iPhone we found out that the name was already taken by Cisco Systems, however Apple still announced the iPhone. Under the agreement, both companies are free to use the "iPhone" trademark on their products throughout the world. Cisco has always maintained since the start of the dispute that it was not about money, even though it stood to profit generously from any settlement.In a joint statement, both companies stated they are free to use the iPhone trademark on their products throughout the world, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark. Additionally, both companies will explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications. Other terms of the agreement are confidential.
