Agere Systems recently unveiled the "BluOnyx Mobile Content Server" which is a portable hard-disk drive with processing capability that performs many of the same functions as an iPod music player or a personal digital assistant without relying on a computer with a screen or a keyboard. It is as wide as a credit card and about as thick as a cell phone.
This is a device that allows cell phone users to carry and store larger amounts of digital songs, messages, video games and contact information anywhere they go. Now your Pictures, emails, files, video and music can be right there when you want them. You can view them on the cell phone, TV or PC screen. All that High Def pictures and video can be moved using the SD slot on the BluOnyx. Music, Video and Documents can be played or viewed on your cell phone.
Put the BluOnyx on the home network and you can drag and drop content to it then pick it up and go.
Users will be able to load content into their cell phones and wirelessly (via Wifi) transfer it for storage to the BluOnyx. Users will be able to back up songs, videos, photos and phone numbers and transfer them to other devices or new cell phones. Users also can share their content with others. That means a cell phone user can beam stored photos to friends via the BluOnyx. This will enable users to have a central, portable depository to store digital content that can be shown on a variety of devices. Agere expects to sell the product to cell phone manufacturers and other companies that will re-sell it under their own brands at retail stores. Depending on memory capacity, models will cost consumers between $99 and $250, competitive with some products already on the market. The company believes it is a one-of-a-kind product.
